 You¿ve heard of Black Lives Matter, No DAPL, Bob Dylan, and the Dead Kennedys, but what about Tropicália, Mujeres Creando, B¿alam Ajpu, and Los Saicos? This capstone course will explore Latin American counter-culture since the 1960s, with an emphasis on indigenous, Afro-descendent, feminist, and working-class perspectives. Topics may include Zapatista women, Peruvian punk, indigenous-language hip-hop, anarcho-feminist street art, Afro-Brazilian narrative, and others, to be selected with the input of enrolled students. The course will also provide an overview of theoretical approaches to Latin American cultural studies.
