  • You've heard of Black Lives Matter, No DAPL, Bob Dylan, and the Dead Kennedys, but what about Tropic├ília, Mujeres Creando, B'alam Ajpu, and Los Saicos? This capstone course will explore Latin American counter-culture since the 1960s, with an emphasis on indigenous, Afro-descendent, feminist, and working-class perspectives. Topics may include Zapatista women, Peruvian punk, indigenous-language hip-hop, anarcho-feminist street art, Afro-Brazilian narrative, and others, to be selected with the input of enrolled students. The course will also provide an overview of theoretical approaches to Latin American cultural studies.
